Law Camp 2017
Law Camp is an annual tradition which kickstarts NUS Orientation. Law Camp aims to foster new friendships between the incoming freshmen and Year 2 seniors as well as expose the freshmen to the culture in NUS Law. Through games, sharing sessions and the general experience of staying in camp together, we hope that the freshmen will be able to forge strong friendships that will last through their years in law school.
This year, Law Camp 2017 will be a 4D3N event held from 5-8 June 2017 (Mon – Thurs).
Pro Bono, which means “for the public good”, is a form of voluntary work which lawyers engage in during their careers, and forms a strong tradition in law school. Pro Bono activities are thus organised as part of Law Orientation to introduce freshmen to this law school tradition, which itself is preparation for Pro Bono work as lawyer.
We work with various partners such as Northlight School and Lions’ Befrienders for activities such as teaching students about the law and raising legal awareness to the elderly. Through Pro Bono, we aim to provide an enriching experience to the freshmen as well as instil a greater sense of voluntarism.
The various Pro Bono activities will be held between June and July 2017. More details will be provided to the freshmen at a later date.
Matriculation Week is a week-long exposure to school life that is unique to law school. During this week, freshmen will learn more about the academic life through talks by professors and law school seniors. Freshmen will also learn more about the legal industry through field trips and networking sessions with practitioners.
To balance the intensity of these sessions, there will be various games conducted throughout the week as well as NUS Law traditions such as the annual Pageant and Picnic Under the Stars (PUTS). Matriculation Week 2017 will be held from 31 Jul to 3 Aug 2017, and will end off with a Dinner and Dance on 5th Aug 2017.
RAG and Flag
Receive and Give (RAG) and Flag is an annual NUS-wide charity event organised by the NUS Students’ Union. On Flag Day, all freshmen will be involved in collecting donations from the public which will go to various beneficiaries. On RAG Day, freshmen will showcase the hard work put into their performances and float construction in a massive carnival for the NUS community and the general public in appreciation of their generosity.
The preparation for RAG will commence after Law Camp and will continue until the actual performance day on Saturday, 12 Aug 2017. Practices are held about 3 times a week, building up towards performance day. Flag Day will be held on Tuesday, 8 Aug 2017.
